Teeth Whitening Care Instructions

The next 24 hours are important in enhancing and maximizing your whitening results for a long lasting, bright and healthy smile.

Human teeth have a protective layer known as the acquired pellicle. During the whitening process this protective layer is temporarily stripped away by the peroxide gel. Although this is not damaging is normally takes 12 to 24 hours for the barrier to be reformed again. Before this barrier is regenerated your teeth are more susceptible to staining and may have increased sensitivity. We provide all our clients with a gel to apply to their teeth for five minutes to minimize sensitivity. We also recommend Tylenol or Advil as well as avoiding hot or cold beverages for 24 hours and brushing with Sensodyne toothpaste in the rare case that sensitivity remains.

To ensure the best whitening results it is important you avoid potentially staining food and beverages. Example of products to avoid are:

  • Coffee and tea
  • Wine
  • Dark colored soda
  • Soy sauce
  • Smoking and all tobacco products ie: chewing tobacco
  • Tomato sauce or ketchup

In order to maintain your whitening results we recommend purchasing a take-home touch up pen for $29.95 which can be used for follow-up treatments at home.
